Mallory + Ryan // Morris-Schlegel Wedding | Studio Ghibli Themed Wedding at Nature Pointe Weddings | Tijeras, New Mexico | Albuquerque, New Mexico Wedding Photographer
Ryan and Mallory met at East Mountain High School in their junior year. A friend introduced them and they discovered they had many interests in common. Mallory remembers that they both talked a lot about Gundam (a series about very large robot suits controlled by a pilot). Their friendship grew from there!
Ryan moved to Socorro, New Mexico to study engineering while attending New Mexico Tech while Mallory attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico to study languages. It’s a short distance of 75 miles from Socorro to Albuquerque which was fantastic! Mal and Ryan took to that road many times during Ryan’s time in Socorro.
Ryan proposed to Mallory at the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan so it was fitting that their beautiful wedding day at Nature Pointe weddings was like a Miyazaki film come to life. A lot of planning went into their wedding. The magic of Miyazaki’s films is unlike any other so incorporating the magnificence of his imagination into Mallory + Ryan’s wedding day was a must. The intricacy of their wedding details were absolutely AMAZING!
With the help of their wedding party, Mallory + Ryan hand painted each of their breathtaking Japanese anime lanterns. The lanterns are used as table centerpieces and the theme reflects Mallory and Ryan’s interest in anime, particularly Studio Ghibli. Take of Princess Kaguya, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Howl’s Moving Castle were just a few of the painted wonders on each of their gorgeous lanterns. Their Totoro themed cake toppers were handmade by Mallory’s bridesmaid, Shannon. The bright colors combined with the beauty of Nature Pointe Weddings stayed true to the quirkiness of their kick ass theme.
Gundam was their beginning, Ghibli is their now, what will the future bring? Virtual reality gaming for two?
I absolutely loved shooting this alongside Jessica Ash Studios - Photography & Film. This wedding completely blew me away with each and every magical second.
